Update at 4 PM: A 38-yr old Dutchman driving the vehicle crashed through the barrier and crowd on purpose. Apparently, he is not connected to a terrorist organization and has no criminal record or history of mental illness. As the driver is undergoing an operation, he cannot be questioned further at this time. 4 people have died, 5 are very seriously injured; in total, 23 were hit and injured. The Queen has expressed her shock that something like this could happen and her sincere regrets for the victims and their families. Flags are hung at half-mast.
1 PM CET: The official celebrations in the sunny city of Apeldoorn were tragically brought to a halt an hour ago when a small black car traveling 70 km/h crashed through the public just at the moment the bus carrying the royal family turned onto the same square. The royals are unharmed, but 14 people including at least one 8 yr old girl are seriously injured. At 3:45 PM a press conference will shed more light on why and how this accident or attempted attack occurred. The shock is enormous. All festivites in the nation have been cancelled. I have no words to express my sorrow.

His wife, Maxima, a civilian from Argentina, is extremely popular. For more about our royals, please view: www.koninklijkhuis.nl/english/
